Refund for ICANN Fee overpayment
May 01
This is the e-mail that I got from Godaddy.
Dear Allwin Jeba,
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN®) recently agreed to reduce their Registrar Transaction Fee from $.25 to $.22. What does this mean for you?
Good news. You have been credited $.03/yr for each domain name you registered or renewed dating back to July 1, 2006* — $.18 has been placed into your Go Daddy® account with this customer number: XXXXXX.
Your in-store credit will be applied to your purchases at GoDaddy.com® until it’s gone or for up to 12 months, whichever comes sooner. If you have any questions, please contact a customer service representative at 480-505-8877.

Now this is cool. I love Godaddy

Cool as it may be, i just blogged about this as well on http://www.DrTweeker.com – the kick is that GoDaddy is going to end up with millions that should be refunded directly to us, instead they give us ‘in store credit’ that expires in 12 months – hence, they keep all the money – GoDaddy really let me down on this one – I’ve never had a reason to dislike them until now. Shame on you GoDaddy!
Submit this to the consumerist.com and let’s be heard on this.
But I guess it is really not possible to refund such small amount. In your case $0.72, the amount is way too low to be refunded. Consider my example. I use paypal to buy my domains via paypal. They refunded me $0.18 imagine if they refund via paypal , paypal will eat all money what will we get $0.10 ??
So I guess it is better the money stays where it is now. We can always add extra money and buy our domains or buy gift certificates.
DrTweeker, would you rather GoDaddy react as most other regsitrars and give you nothing? It’s a little rediculous to expect GoDaddy to make refunds to credit cards, paypal, accounts, or by check for such small amounts. I think the point is that they are at least making an effort to do the right thing. I guess this is another example of damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
