Orkut – Spammed !!

Those who have come late Orkut in an online social networking website. Orkut is probably the most spammed website out there. Orkut provides each members a facility to start their own community, where like minded people can register. Since these communities are managed by the members it has become a spam destination. Anyone can start a community with any topic. This has lead to very poor moderation. Every community is spammed like hell by its members. Even though Orkut has given an option of multiple moderators, but the SPAM still exists.

If you go through any Community you will soon discover is that there are very few threads related to those communities and rest being SPAM or useless threads like rate the person above etc. These communities do not serve any purpose. If you browse through any user profile you will find out that they are members of more than 200 – 300 communities and that person is active in none of those communities. Orkut is affiliated with Google, Google is running adsense on these spammed communities violating it’s own Google Adsense TOS.

There are thousands communities out there and thousands added daily. With such a level of SPAM in these communities, I wonder if Google can do anything to stop these SPAM. The communities are so abused that it is being used to promote terrorism by spreading the word of Terrorism to innocent people across the world. Source: Wikipedia , USATODAY.COM.
